Highlights from the April Council Meeting

Council meets four times a year to oversee the College of Early Childhood Educators’ activities in regulating the profession in the public interest.

Here are highlights from the meeting held on April 1, 2026.

In the Spotlight

Two of the College’s strategic priorities are to embed equity, diversity and inclusion in all our work and to establish and maintain meaningful relationships with sector partners.

At its April 1, 2026, meeting, Council reviewed the draft Reconciliation Action Plan that has been developed with the support of First Peoples Group, a national Indigenous-owned consulting firm, and in consultation with Council, committees, staff, and Indigenous organizations, partners and RECEs. The Reconciliation Action Plan is an important strategic initiative that reflects the College’s commitment to advancing reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and creating a more inclusive and culturally-safe profession.

Council also approved updates to two registration policies.

Based on consultation with Indigenous partners, the Policy Statement regarding Education for Entry for Practice was updated to

  • Recognize the College’s commitment to embedding anti-racism in its work and supporting Indigenous peoples’ rights to self-determination.
  • Recognize the importance of Indigenous pedagogical practices, including land-based learning, and the important role Indigenous Knowledge Keepers play in Indigenous-led programming.
  • Require RECEs to use their professional knowledge to foster inclusive environments.
  • Add bridging programs as a type of post-secondary education, which the College included in the Approval of Education Programs Policy in 2025.

The Policy Statement regarding Practicum was updated to update the College’s commitment to anti-racism to recognize Indigenous peoples’ inherent rights to design, deliver, govern, and evaluate Indigenous-led education systems.
