Highlights from the October Council Meeting

Council meets four times a year to oversee the College of Early Childhood Educators’ (College) activities in regulating the profession in the public interest.

Here are highlights from the meeting held on October 25, 2023.

In the spotlight

  • Kate Manson-Smith, Ontario’s Deputy Minister of Education, attended the meeting. In her formal remarks and in conversation with Council, she spoke about:
    • Workforce challenges in early childhood education, including recruitment, retention and compensation of RECEs;
    • The College’s unique and valued position as Canada’s only regulator of the profession and how this benefits RECEs and Ontario children and families; and
    • The Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) Plan and the need to ensure the program is implemented effectively and sustainably.

Good to know

  • Council reviewed the College’s activities for the period ending June 30, 2023.
  • Council approved audited financial statements for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023. These will be presented at the College’s Annual Meeting in January 2024.
