Highlights from the June Council Meeting

Council meets four times per year to oversee the College of Early Childhood Educators’ (College) activities in regulating the profession in the public interest.

Here are highlights from the meeting held on June 15 and 16, 2022.

New Council Members

Following the elections held in April, Council welcomed three newly elected members from District 5: Aliya Amin RECE, Katherine Begley RECE and Mark Francisco RECE and welcomed back returning Council member Kim Cole RECE from District 7.  Council also welcomed a new publicly appointed member, Richard Filion.

Council Chair and Vice Chair

Kristine Parsons RECE and Laura Urso RECE were re-elected for their second terms as Chair and Vice Chair of Council.

In the spotlight

Council has approved the College’s new Strategic Plan 2022-2027. The plan is based on two pillars: proactive public protection and collaborative leadership and engagement.  Objectives under the plan include building a resilient and sustainable early childhood education workforce, and building and creating meaningful relationships with stakeholders, members and the public.

Good to know

  • The College is committed to providing resources to support members’ mental health and well-being. The Executive Committee, acting on behalf of Council, approved in a two-year initiative to provide online mental health supports for RECEs.
  • Council reviewed the College’s budget for 2022-2023. There will be no increase to member fees, which will stay at $160.
