The College of Early Childhood Educators (College) supports the provincial government’s commitment to improve access to quality licensed child care for children and families in Ontario. We are pleased to see that both reports commissioned by the government, Workforce Study for Early Years and Child Care Employees and Affordable For All: Making Licensed Child Care Affordable in Ontario, recognize that qualified and accountable professionals are key to the delivery of high quality early years programs.
Registered early childhood educators (RECEs) are regulated professionals with specialized training, which makes them uniquely qualified to practise the profession of early childhood education. They practice in accordance with the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, and through the College are accountable to the public.
The College supports the vision of a framework of qualifications and accountability across the early learning and child care sector. We are also encouraged by the government’s commitment to retaining qualified professionals in the workforce and supporting environments that allow RECEs to practice in accordance with the high standards of the profession.
